Zones by Särkänniemi, an indoor entertainment center at the Ideapark shopping center in Lempäälä, Finland, opened its doors in February. The opening ceremony was preceded by a 2.5-month project, in which Maintpartner was responsible for the relocation and refurbishment of the amusement park equipment. The equipment, which was purchased by Zones by Särkänniemi from the previous operator, went through a complete renovation. In the first stage, a 5000 sq. ft. area was opened after it had been renovated from floor to ceiling.
Maintpartner’s Nokia team took care of, among other things, relocation, mechanical maintenance and refurbishment of the indoor roller coaster and various simulators and twists. Maintpartner also supports the Särkänniemi amusement park maintenance crew at the moment by taking care of maintenance and on-call assistance. Amusement park equipment are part of the expertise of Maintpartner’s Nokia team, which has long been working with maintenance at the Särkänniemi amusement park in Tampere.
The renewal of the Zones by Särkänniemi was characterized by special challenges because the work was done within the shopping center. Also the coordination of many different actors on a tight schedule posed a challenge. Construction noise had to be minimized during the shopping center's opening hours, the hoists had to be planned carefully and also the loadbearing capacity of the floors had its limits. In order to ensure safety, extensive and thorough maintenance and necessary repairs were carried out.
"Cooperation with Maintpartner was familiar to me from the period of the Hype roller coaster project, and it was great to continue with them here at Zones by Särkänniemi. I have been able to rely on the expertise of this professional group in every situation. It is also important that they try to find the most cost-effective solutions for the customer, with the quality remaining high, "says Maria Eskelinen, Director of the Zones by Särkänniemi entertainment center.
"A professional and adaptable team made it possible for the job to be completed successfully in such a tight schedule," says Maintpartner’s Team Leader Lauri Kousa. "We were able to find the right working methods and equipment for each situation and need."
The entertainment center is divided into several different zones, where there is something to do for the whole family. The renovation work will continue, and in the spring there will be a more formal opening ceremony.
